Over dinner with a close friend (who knows that I do this work), we got into a lengthy discussion over what I will call “sexual identity”. As regular visitors know, most of the males featured on this site tell me they’re straight They base this on not having had any male-male physical sexual contact. They (the models) receive payment for their appearances on this site, sign and complete all the required paperwork; at that point they become performers participating in a video. Whatever they do is as a performer; that doesn’t impact their perception they are “straight.” I believe a high percentage of them are, whatever “straight” means.
Prior to the camera being turned on, I have a lengthy face-face meeting with each of them This follows a lengthy pre-screening process, conducted through email and by phone. While some “dart out the door”, the procedures I use curb almost all those hasty exits.
In releases for each new model, I ask they state in writing their sexual orientation. Some of the straight boys have had “limited” sexual contact with other males, most have had no male sexual contact. In fact, many are generally emphatic about not having had any sexual contact with another male. I find it interesting that they don’t consider my touching and examining them as sexual contact. I think that’s a result of having a well designed set and realistic professional procedures.
To stay current with what “other sites” are doing, I regularly visit other web sites and read their model bios. I have been extremely fortunate over the years to have launched the “porn careers” of numerous male actors. Off camera, I share some of my personal experiences with some of my models about those that I have worked with who have gone on to “blow it up big” in the adult industry.
I take pride when I see one of my discoveries on another web site. Many web site owners are very territorial when it comes to their “stars”. They will not hire them if they have done work for other adult sites. I don’t automatically dismiss someone with talent simply because that person is “exposed” on other sites; my criteria is what you will enjoy seeing. Truth is, most of my actors are just starting out and have not appeared on other sites, nor have handled another man’s cock (or sucked it).
Truth is a wonderful thing. While I might not give the “whole truth” on the phone to a prospective new model, unless there’s special circumstances, I do to you. I don’t color the truth to make it a “better read” or to make a model into someone or something that he isn’t. Nor would I alter the truth to “settle a score” or be vindictive towards a model.
You all know what a sexual orientation is, we’ve dealt with it all our lives. It is the born, in my genes (or jeans), gut reactions, feelings that you have towards a member of one sex or both sexes. Contrary to what some preachers claim, it’s something that you cannot control. Sexual identity, or professional identity, is a role that you assume because of the circumstances of the moment. In the case of gay video, the professional identity normally involves an amount of money as stimulus and inducement to perform. That’s different from a person’s sexual orientation. I have never liked the term gay for pay. Personally, I don’t think at this stage in my life, I could be straight for pay. I don’t think I could be a “broke-gay-male” being paid to fuck a woman.
I’d like to think many of the models I have worked with hold some degree of affection to me. I occasionally hear from those I’ve worked with in prior years, one even called recently asking me to be Godfather to his son. (He probably needs an exam to get the Marriage License ….) Truth is, I hear more frequently from those who went on to work for other porn sites. It’s a cold, brutal world out there. Many of those calls are asking for advice, how do they handle a situation where the owner of the web site has told them “……….. or you don’t get paid.” “…….do this….or that…..or you won’t get a plane ticket home !” “Put out, or I’ll slap a blurb on the board that you’re gay and that you want to try getting double-fucked.” Other than tell them ‘to get the Hell out of there”, I don’t know what else to tell them. That is not something I would ever do.
I owe my viewers the truth. I’m not going to claim a model is gay or bi, in hopes those they know will see it, with the intent of harming, demeaning or punishing a model. That’s low rent.
There may be few ethics in the porn industry. There damn sure are some at JockPhysical.
